Thandie Newton is still angry with her first boyfriend.

The 36-year-old actress has not forgiven director John Duigan for sweeping her into an "unhealthy" relationship when he was 39 and she was just 16.

The "Crash" star said: "I was so young. I was separated from my parents filming 'Flirting' in Australia."

"I didn't tell my parents about it but really young people who are vulnerable have to be looked out for."

"How can it possibly be right to start a serious relationship with someone at that age when you are so much older?"

"I don't forgive him, but I do understand a bit more because I have had therapy. I have moved on and it feels like it happened a long time ago."

Thandie – who has two daughters, Ripley, eight, and Nico, four, with director Ol Parker – says her troubled relationship with Duigan drove her to bulimia, something she is now keen to "leave behind."

She explained: "When you don't like yourself or the situation you are in, you do not do very nice things to yourself."

"I know lots of women suffer from eating disorders, so talking about it and saying there is no shame in it is good. But, on the other hand, I feel I want to leave it behind now. I want to reclaim a bit of me."
